Summary
On July 21, 1960, three or four witnesses near Hyattsville and Patuxent River, Maryland reported a falling object at about 9:30 p.m. The sighting lasted about 5 seconds. Some witnesses were on the ground and one was airborne in a Navy aircraft. The object was round, with no tail or trail. The color varied by witness, from pale yellow to milky white. It fell straight down with no maneuvers. Witnesses included a flight engineer, a housewife, and aircrew. The sky was clear with no moon. A Navy aircraft sent to look saw nothing unusual. The Air Force concluded the brief duration and area of the sightings indicated the object was a meteor.
