Summary

On April 27, 1956, a civilian at Huntington, California, reported one object at 2110 (9:10 p.m.). The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The witness said the object was bluish-white and very small. It appeared to be at an altitude of about 5,000 feet. The object moved west at erratic speeds, both very fast and very slow, and went out toward the ocean. The sighting lasted about 30 minutes. The sky was clear with about ten miles of visibility.

The Air Force concluded the object was the planet Venus. The record said the object had the characteristics of Venus and stayed in the same relative position in the west for 30 minutes.
