Project Blue Book Case File
Holloman AFB, New MexicoMay 1950
Summary
On the morning of May 24, 1950, at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, military camera crews photographed objects in the sky. The case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record system for unidentified flying object reports. Trained observers tracking missile tests with special cameras (Askania photo theodolites) reported seeing several objects, sometimes as many as eight at once.
Two camera stations tried to film the objects so their position could be measured. One station tracked an object for six frames, and the other tracked one for seventy four frames. But the two stations turned out to be following two different objects, so their distance and height could not be worked out.
The films were processed and sent to a researcher for study. The objects made no measurable result possible. The Air Force record lists the conclusion as insufficient data. The file also includes a 1955 interview about a separate airline pilot sighting on May 29, 1950.
