Summary

On September 3, 1956, observers at Henderson Harbor, New York reported a circular, sphere shaped object. It was red on the inside and green on the outside. The object was first seen at about 310 degrees azimuth and moved roughly due east in a straight line. It was watched both with the eye and through binoculars before it faded from sight after about 45 to 85 minutes.

After aircraft were scrambled, the pilot of one plane made visual contact with an object that seemed to be above and to the northwest of him. The pilot said it was most likely a star. Air Force officers noted the object did appear to move and finally disappeared. The card lists the witnesses as members of a radar squadron and a civilian student.

The Air Force concluded the sighting was possibly caused by a balloon, based on the wind direction, the course, and the way the object disappeared.
