Summary

On November 9, 1957, a civilian in Hemet, California reported seeing an unidentified flying object at 5:30 p.m. The witness described an object with a flame-colored tail traveling slowly from west to east. The object appeared to be about 4 feet long and 1.5 feet wide, slightly tapered in front. A distinct line separated a light part and the flame-colored tail. The witness observed the object from below the tops of the hills. The sighting lasted until approximately 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The object was gliding along almost level with the flight corridor. The witness noted it was not flared at all, did not appear to move at great speed, and traveled at a clear and distinct angle while clearing the hills to the east. A distinct line between the light part and the flame-colored tail was visible. The Air Force evaluation was marked as unknown.
