Project Blue Book Case File
Georgetown, South CarolinaDecember 1957
Summary
On December 2, 1957, around dawn, a witness near Georgetown, South Carolina saw one bullet shaped object. It was about as wide as a pencil lead and roughly half an inch long, with a fiery yellow color. A tail trailed behind it, about ten to twelve times longer than the object. The tail was multicolored, with orange, green, purple, and reddish pink. The object faded out of sight. It was in view for about eight seconds. The witness was watching the horizon while duck hunting. This was a civilian, ground visual report.
The object moved in a smooth arc that seemed to follow the curve of the Earth, heading east-northeast. The report was filed on Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force concluded the object was probably a meteor. It noted the duration was too short for a rocket fired during naval operations in the area.
