Project Blue Book Case File
Greenville AFB, SCApril 1948
Summary
The OCR quality for most of this case file is severely degraded. While pages 1 through 6 contain some legible content, pages 10 through 15 are almost entirely illegible, consisting primarily of garbled character strings with only occasional readable words or phrases. Pages 7 through 9 show moderate degradation but contain some extractable information. The document quality does not support a reliable full summary.
From the limited legible sections, the following can be discerned: On April 19, 1948, two officers assigned to the 5th Liaison Squadron at Greenville Air Force Base in South Carolina observed unidentified flying objects while searching the sky after hearing fighter aircraft in the vicinity. The witnesses initially thought the objects might be weather balloons but changed their assessment when the objects rapidly accelerated northward. The objects were described as arranged in a trail formation and disappeared within seconds after accelerating. A nearly weather balloon from Spartanburg, South Carolina, released at 1230 (12:30 p.m.) Eastern Standard Time, was considered in the investigation. The Air Force evaluation on this case and subsequent conclusions are not legible in the available OCR text.
