Garden City, New YorkOctober 1957

Unidentified

Summary

On October 9, 1957, at about 2220 (Greenwich time) in Garden City, New York, a civilian housewife saw one oval bright silver object. It was about the size of a dime held at arm's length. The object moved straight up and was in sight for three to four minutes before it faded from sight. The Air Force record card for Project 10073, its official record for unidentified flying object reports, lists the conclusion as probably balloon. The card says the description, duration, and flight path indicate the sighting was probably caused by a balloon that had just been released.
