Project Blue Book Case File

Fishkill, New YorkJuly 1957

Unidentified

Summary

On July 8, 1957, shortly after 9 p.m., a civilian in Fishkill, New York, spotted an object in the western sky. The witness described it as white and roughly the size of a basketball held at arm's length. For about 15 seconds, the object moved on a straight, level path before fading from view.

The Air Force recorded the sighting as a ground-based visual observation. The witness noted scattered thunderstorms in the area and cirrus clouds overhead. According to the case file, the object's edges appeared sharp and well-defined, and the sky conditions allowed for clear viewing. The witness indicated they were fairly certain of the duration and motion they had observed.

The Air Force evaluated this sighting as unidentified. The case file offers limited additional investigative detail, and the OCR quality of some pages makes it difficult to extract a full account of any follow-up analysis or expert commentary. The evaluation stands without explanation in the available records.

The full case file, comprising 10 pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
