Summary

On October 12, 1956, a witness in Fairview, New Jersey saw one reddish and orange object with jagged edges. It looked about the size of the head of a pin at arm's length and seemed to grow larger at times. The object drifted, stood still at times, and moved slowly toward the west. The witness watched it both with the eyes and through binoculars for about ten minutes. This was a civilian, ground visual report.

The report was filed on Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force concluded the sighting was probably caused by a weather balloon. It said the object's movement and description supported that finding.
