Project Blue Book Case File
Fairchild AFB, WashingtonSeptember 1950
Summary
On September 3, 1950, a military source near Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington reported a bright light. The report is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record system for unidentified flying object reports.
Observers saw a bluish white light coming toward their car from the northeast. The light moved at high speed and seemed to head straight at the car. According to the observer's wife, the light grew in size over the hangar area, from about the size of an auto headlight to twice that size. It gave off sparks in a fiery trail that showed colors other than its blue white. Then the light suddenly went out. No sound was heard.
Local commanders noted the sightings could not be easily explained and ruled out aircraft, landing lights, jet trails, and meteorites. The Air Force later listed its conclusion as a meteor observation.
