Summary

On October 22, 1952, an airman reported an unusual object over Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska. The sighting happened at about 2:40 a.m. local time as Airman Second Class John E. Driscoll stepped out of his barracks.

Driscoll said the object was round and reddish orange in color. It was first seen northwest of where two main runways crossed. The object moved in a southeasterly direction. He watched it for about three and a half minutes. He said short spurts of gas came out of the object at brief intervals.

Visibility was poor at the time because of light snow and rain. The Air Force record card for this report does not give a final conclusion. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
