El CAJON, CALIFORNIADecember 1953
Summary
On December 24, 1953, at about 8:04 a.m. local time near El Cajon, California, two Navy pilots reported ten objects in formation. The pilots were experienced aviators with over 20 years of flying each. They were cruising over El Cajon at about 20,000 feet and 350 knots when they saw the objects to the east.
The objects were oval and silver, of unknown size, flying in formation. There were no trails and the means of propulsion was unknown. Their speed was greater than 400 knots, and they were at an altitude estimated above 50,000 feet. They disappeared in level flight. The pilots watched them for about a minute and a half.
The weather was clear with unlimited visibility and little wind. An investigations office said interception was impossible due to the objects' greater speed. The pilots' commanding officer rated them reliable. The Air Force record lists the conclusion as unidentified.
