Summary

On November 4, 1957, a civilian in Dunedin, Florida, reported seeing a round silver object about the size of a small ball held at arm's length. The object had a tail four times as long as its body but the same width. It moved slowly southward and remained visible for seven or eight minutes.

The witness observed the object from the ground during daylight hours. The sighting was brief and involved only one person watching with the naked eye.

The Air Force investigation concluded the sighting was likely caused by a jet aircraft pulling non-persistent contrails (the white trails that form behind high-flying jets in certain atmospheric conditions). The case file notes that the reporting officer agreed with this explanation. No photographs were taken, and no radar data was recorded in connection with the sighting.

The full case file is reproduced below as held by the National Archives, comprising 9 pages.
