Summary

On September 26, 1960, a military weather observer at Dhahran Airfield, Saudi Arabia, reported an object at 1930 (about 10:33 p.m. local) overhead. He saw a very bright light followed by an orange streak of flame almost directly overhead, at an elevation angle of 70 to 88 degrees. The flame moved from southeast to northwest. The bright light appeared first, then the streak. The whole sighting lasted about 5 seconds. The observer said the object was distinctly different from any meteor he had ever seen. The Air Force listed the case as a meteor. The card noted the duration was too short for a reentry and none was reported for that date, so it was classed as a meteor.
