Summary

On October 4, 1962, a housewife in Des Plaines, Illinois, reported a sighting at night. The time was about 0730Z. The witness did not actually see an object.

The woman said a window lit up with a red-orange glow and she heard a hum. When she went to another room to look, whatever caused it was gone within about 5 seconds. The night was clear with no moon.

The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force said it could be a meteor or a light reflection from an unidentified source. The report was incomplete and no investigation of the cause was made.
