DEQUINCY, LA., November 1952November 1952
Summary
On the evening of November 27, 1952, a housewife near DeQuincy, Louisiana, saw an unusual bright object moving toward her home. She watched it for approximately two and a half hours as it hovered and moved slowly across the sky, displaying a pulsating motion. The object appeared round or pyramidal in shape and glowed with very bright reddish pink and green colors. The witness's reliability was rated as below average by Air Force investigators.
The observer first noticed the light around 8:15 p.m. as it approached from the east. She called her family to watch it with her, and at one point they retrieved some binoculars to observe it more closely. Through the binoculars, the object appeared to take on different configurations, sometimes looking like an acorn cup lit with neon light, with the outer rim reddish pink and the center glowing red, green, and yellow. The witness noted that the flickering motion was visible even to the naked eye. After her husband left to inform others about the sighting, she and her daughter continued watching with the binoculars. Around 10:15 p.m., the family grew tired of watching and went to bed, though the object remained visible in the sky.
The Air Force investigation found no evidence to explain the sighting. The file notes that no meteorological or other solar phenomena could account for what the witness observed. No physical evidence such as photographs or fragments was recovered. The investigation was considered impractical to pursue further, partly because the Air Force considered it impractical to conduct a personal interview with the witness. The full case file, consisting of 16 pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
