Summary

A civilian woman in Dayton, Ohio reported seeing a yellowish-white, oblong-shaped object hovering low on the horizon in early February 1953. She observed it on two separate occasions, each time for periods ranging from three to thirty minutes. Both times, the object appeared due west of her position and vanished by sinking below the horizon.

The woman contacted the Air Force's Aircraft and Armaments Center (ATIC) to report what she had seen. Investigators noted that although she was of average intelligence, she had no experience identifying aerial phenomena. After reviewing her account, the Air Force concluded that she had most likely witnessed the setting of the planet Venus, a common source of UFO reports. The file does not indicate any further investigation or follow-up.
