Summary

On the night of October 11, 1956, an 18-year-old youth driving near Crane, Indiana reported a large, glowing object that was red or amber in color. He said it was about 75 to 100 feet in the air and about 40 feet in diameter. The object was watched for about twenty seconds.

The sighting was made next to a U.S. naval depot. No low-flying aircraft were in the area and radar reported no objects. No one else reported the object. The report noted that the youth's father had also reported a UFO less than a month before. The Air Force concluded there was a strong possibility that a conventional object or light was seen.
