Project Blue Book Case File
Coronado, CaliforniaJuly 1954
Summary
On the morning of July 22, 1954, a retired Marine Corps major general at Coronado, California, reported hearing a strange object. At about 8:41 a.m. he heard the sound of an object that seemed to move slightly southwest at three to four times the speed of a jet.
The witness did not see the object and could not estimate its altitude. He said the sound seemed to come from above the overcast, which he estimated at 1,500 feet. He reported it because in 25 years of Marine aviation he had not heard a sound like it, and it did not match jets, rockets, or artillery.
He checked the time by telephone and then reported the matter to the duty officer at the naval air station. No similar reports were received. The Air Force record card noted the object was not seen and listed the case as insufficient data.
