Summary
On April 9, 1957, military witnesses near Columbia, South Carolina, reported a single object. The case was logged under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The object was a fiery ball with a tail, about the size of a basketball at arm's length.
The object was seen by four observers, some on the ground and some from an aircraft, with varying accounts. Two watched it for five to six seconds and two for 10 to 15 seconds. Its course ran from south to southeast.
