Cayuga Lake, New YorkApril 1952
Summary
On April 3, 1952, at 2110 (9:10 p.m.) Eastern time, two people reported a fireball over the Cayuga Lake region of New York. One observer was a crew chief for an airline with twelve years of aviation experience. He, his wife, and a friend saw the object from a car about seven miles from Ithaca, along the west shore of Cayuga Lake.
The witnesses described a sizable ball of fire, green in color, with green flames streaking out. It moved very rapidly in an arc from northeast to northwest across Cayuga Lake.
The report was sent after the wife read a magazine article asking people to notify the Air Force of such sightings. The Air Force record card lists the conclusion as probably astronomical, a meteor, and labels the object a green fireball.
