Summary

On February 1, 1958, at Camp Carson, Colorado, a civilian reported seeing four distinct parallel lines burning like flares and pointing downward. The object was about the size of a pencil and red-orange in color. The witness observed it for four minutes as it faded from bright fiery color to pink and then out. The object remained stationary. The Air Force evaluated the sighting as unidentified. A major with the 39th Infantry, First Battle Group at Fort Carson noted the typical characteristic and description of contrails seen near or at sunset as emanating from either multi-engine aircraft in formation.
