Summary

On June 24, 1960, a witness at Brookley Air Force Base near Mobile, Alabama saw a bright object in the sky. The sighting happened at twilight, about 6:48 p.m. local time, and lasted around 10 seconds. The object had no definite shape or size. It was orange and bluish white. It had a bright trail that appeared to be about two feet long. The object was about 10 degrees above the horizon to the south. It dropped toward the horizon on a downward path. There was no sound. The witnesses were rated weapons controllers. The Air Force concluded the sighting was astronomical. The card said it was very probably a bright meteor.
