Project Blue Book Case File
Bickmore, West VirginiaAugust 1962
Summary
On the night of August 30, 1962, a youth in Bickmore, West Virginia saw what he described as a flying saucer. The object was oval in shape, solid, and dull red in color. It moved at an estimated speed of 60 miles per hour at an altitude of 5,000 feet. The witness reported hearing a humming sound before the object disappeared into the clouds. The witness believed in flying saucers, and the sighting was reported by letter in June 1963, more than eight months after it occurred.
The witness did not report the exact duration of the sighting. The Air Force's analysis found nothing in the case that conflicted with conventional aircraft. The evaluation form indicates that insufficient data existed to reach a firm conclusion about what was observed.
