Summary

On August 19, 1954, a person traveling by car near Moundsville, West Virginia reported seeing an unusual object from the rear window of the vehicle. The observer described a disc-shaped object with a dome on top and bright lights. The object appeared roughly twice as large as the moon, was first spotted in the northwest sky, and eventually disappeared toward the south while flying at a low angle to the horizon.

The observation lasted only about ten seconds. The Air Force received this report secondhand, rather than directly from the witness. In the case file, the Air Force noted that the short duration and lack of detail suggested the sighting might have been a meteor. The file also characterized the report as unreliable, citing the secondhand nature of the account.

The case file contains 14 pages as held by the National Archives.
