Project Blue Book Case File
Morgantown, West VirginiaMay 1949
Summary
On March 15, 1949, at about 2100 (9:00 p.m.), a civilian witness near Morgantown, West Virginia, reported seeing an object in the sky. He described it to an Air Force Office of Special Investigations agent. The case was handled under Project Grudge, an early Air Force study of these reports.
The witness said the object was disc-shaped, yellowish, and glowing. He thought it looked about 18 inches across at an estimated distance of about 20 miles. It moved across the sky from northeast to southwest at about 45 degrees above the horizon. It was in sight for two or three seconds and left a long, yellowish, tapering trail of flame.
The witness said he saw a second object on March 28, 1949, following the same path at a similar speed and altitude. The report notes that weather records from the Morgantown Municipal Airport for those two dates were included, and that local police records had nothing on the matter.
