Project Blue Book Case File
Bettles, AlaskaFebruary 1955
Summary
On February 3, 1955, near Bettles, Alaska, an object was sighted at about 30,000 to 35,000 feet. The report came from a military air transport source. The object seemed to have a yellow fin, possibly caused by sunlight reflecting off it.
The object left a white trail of billowing smoke about five miles long. It had a slim fuselage and a very pointed nose, with a needle-like part sticking out in front. Its estimated speed was about 200 miles per hour faster than jets. Attempts at radio contact on all channels failed.
The Air Force suggested the object was possibly an aircraft of unknown origin. The report was kept on file in the records repository.
