Summary
On January 8, 1956, witnesses near Bedford, Indiana, reported three objects in the sky. The Greenwich time was 1659Z. The observers were civilians.
The objects were described as circular and silver, three close together. They appeared to give off a vaporish smoke. Their shape seemed to change, and they moved from side to side. The sighting lasted about two hours and 34 minutes.
Fighter aircraft were sent to the area. They did not make contact with the reported objects but sighted a Piper Cub type aircraft, which was assumed to be a civilian patrol plane. The reporting officer suggested the jet fighters in the area could have been mistaken for the objects.
The case is filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The card noted no positional information was included, and the Air Force conclusion was INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR EVALUATION.
