Summary

On April 1, 1959, civilians in Batesville, Arkansas, reported seeing a round, transparent, egg-shaped object with a silver color rising straight up. The sighting lasted about two hours. A TV engineer viewed the object through a telescope and said it appeared to be a weather balloon. A Navy minisweeper climbed to 34,000 feet and circled below the object, reporting it looked like a weather balloon at 3:52 p.m. The Air Force evaluation was unknown.
