Summary

On the night of September 20, 1956, the control tower at Manston Air Force Base in England received two phone calls about unidentified flying objects. The witnesses were British civilians. The first call, at about 7 p.m. local time, came from a woman who reported a bright object in the sky south of Ashford, Kent. The second call, at about 11:50 p.m. local time, came from a sergeant who said he saw an object at 1840 (6:40 p.m.) and again at 1940 (7:40 p.m.) over Gillingham, Kent, heading southeast and then south-southeast.

The calls were passed to a liaison officer, who said the objects might have been cosmic ray balloons. The information reached investigators about four days after the event. They could not get further details, and only the witnesses' towns, not their addresses, were known. The card lists no firm conclusion.
