Project Blue Book Case File
Albuquerque, N. Mex., February 1950February 1950
Summary
On February 24, 1950, experienced civilian weather observers in Albuquerque, New Mexico, reported an unusual object. The first sighting was about 1:58 p.m. Mountain Standard Time, from the roof of the airport terminal building, where a weather observer spotted it through a theodolite while tracking a weather balloon. He watched it for about one and a half minutes.
The first observer said the object was round but not quite spherical, somewhat egg shaped, and darkened on the upper left side as seen through the instrument. Its color matched the moon seen in daytime. It moved in a straight path toward the west-southwest and showed no trail, exhaust, sound, or odor. It moved slowly, taking about a minute and a half to cross two degrees in the theodolite. A second observer in the tower also saw a single round object, describing it as bright white like reflecting metal, moving slowly far away. A third weather man was present but did not see it.
The observers had years of weather experience and said they had never seen anything like it before. They were considered entirely trustworthy. The case was closed after all leads were exhausted.
