Summary

On May 12, 1961, a civilian pilot saw an object about 40 nautical miles east of Peck, Michigan. The sighting lasted about 20 minutes. The object was about the size and shape of a large star and as bright as a star. No trail, exhaust, or sound was noted.

The object was seen to the north of the reporting aircraft and high above it. For about 20 minutes it drifted very slowly, then turned south and disappeared at a tremendous rate of speed. The object's true altitude was unknown.

The Air Force noted that the witness did not say in which direction the object moved while it drifted, and that the type and altitude of the aircraft were not reported. Because of this lack of information, the Air Force said a valid conclusion could not be made about the nature of the object.
