Summary
On July 11, 1962, five people about 30 miles north of Kankakee, Illinois, on U.S. 54 reported objects at about 2020 (8:20 p.m.). The objects were in sight for about 15 minutes.
The witnesses described two cone-shaped objects, orange, each with a tail of exhaust about 6 to 7 times as long as the body. The objects were at about the one o'clock position and moved on a straight path from Kankakee toward Chicago before disappearing on the horizon. They were viewed with binoculars. The observers stated the objects were not a falling star and not a jet.
This report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force concluded there was insufficient data for evaluation.
