Summary

On April 27, 1952, near Yuma, Arizona, an Air Force staff sergeant and his wife reported unconventional objects. The couple were seated in their car at a drive in theater. The sighting took place between about 2030 and 2230 (8:30 to 10:30 p.m.), below a 6,000 foot cloud deck.

The witnesses described objects that looked like bright red or flame colored disks, slightly larger than a fighter aircraft. About seven or eight objects were seen, though some may have been the same object reappearing. The objects appeared singly except for one time when two flew in formation. At first they seemed to be falling stars, but they flew level with the ground and then made abrupt changes in course.

No sound was heard and no aerodynamic features were seen. Most objects faded into the distance, but one pulled up sharply into the overcast. The sergeant, who had worked in airport control for two years, stated he was sure it was not an aircraft or any object he had seen before. The record card lists the conclusion as Unknown.
