Project Blue Book Case File
Yonkers, N. Y., November 1957November 1957
Summary
On November 6, 1957, a witness at Yonkers, New York, reported an object in the sky. The sighting was a ground visual observation that lasted about 30 seconds.
The object was round and white, about the size of a baseball. It left a vapor trail. The witness estimated a very high speed, around 2,500 to 3,000 miles per hour, and an altitude of 60,000 to 80,000 feet. The object was first stationary, then moved north, then moved from north to south.
This case is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force noted the reported speed and altitude were too extreme to be correct for a night estimate and considered the witness an unreliable observer.
