Summary

On August 30, 1957, at 0037 (Greenwich time) near Wichita, Kansas, a military air crew reported one object. The aircraft, Braniff 48, estimated the object at 25,000 feet, heading about 085 degrees, at a speed of about 200 knots. The sighting lasted about 2 minutes. The crew reported it because of its slow speed at that altitude and its erratic changes in direction. The object was lost from sight when it went behind a cloud. The Air Force record card says the sighting had the traits of a balloon. The card lists the conclusion as insufficient data for evaluation.
