Summary

On May 20, 1956, in Wheaton, Illinois, a civilian reported one object. It was a ground visual sighting at about 9:50 p.m. local time. The witness watched it for about 23 minutes with the naked eye.

The object was round and about the size of a dime held at arm's length. It was white to pink in color and bright. It appeared to drift to the northwest. The witness was a fireman for a railroad.

The sky was clear with 15 miles of visibility. The Air Force sent a message asking for more information. A reply indicated the sighting was in all probability caused by the planet Venus. The Project 10073 record card, the official record for unidentified flying object reports, listed the conclusion as astronomical (Venus).
