Summary

On July 24, 1958, at approximately 12:00 a.m., a civilian observer in West Nyack, New York reported seeing a moving object in the eastern sky. The object appeared about the size of the full moon and shined with a silver metallic color. No visible vapor trail was noted. The shape was slightly elliptical, with its long axis pointing in the direction of flight. The witness observed the object for 8 to 10 seconds before it disappeared in the western sky. The Air Force evaluated this sighting as a meteor.
