Project Blue Book Case File
Warner Robins AFB Ga, January 1951January 1951
Summary
On January 25, 1951, near Warner Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, several civilians reported a strange object in the evening sky around sunset. One witness was a former crop-dusting pilot. He said the object looked like a cone with the point up over a dark base, glowing a steady red. He watched it climb in what he called stair steps to about 8,000 to 10,000 feet over roughly three minutes, then hover, then shoot upward at a sharp angle at great speed.
Other witnesses near the Zeigler Apartments first thought a plane was on fire. They described a dark, oblong shape with red or orange light coming off it. They heard no noise and saw no smoke. The object moved off toward the west and climbed before vanishing.
The sky was clear at the time, with visibility about 10 miles. The Air Force recorded this case in Project 10073, its official file for unidentified flying object reports. The conclusion was that the sighting was a balloon.
