Summary

On January 22, 1961, between 2130 and 2200 (9:30 to 10:00 p.m.), a man and a woman parked about four miles north of Weston, Missouri reported an object. It flew overhead, then landed in woods over a mile away, showing a red light that was more like a glow.

When the man got out of the car and the courtesy lights came on, two bright lights on the object turned on and pointed toward the auto. The two lights were one above the other and brighter than any searchlight. As the couple drove toward town, the object took off and stayed to one side of the car for about three miles before lifting off. The sighting lasted about 10 minutes.

The man, a garage mechanic, did not think it was a helicopter. The Air Force conclusion was probably aircraft. The comment says no flying agency had a helicopter scheduled in the area, but the maneuvers were typical of a helicopter, and the object was probably a helicopter.
