Summary

On August 2, 1956, a witness in Van Dyke, Michigan, reported a single object. The sighting lasted about five hours and thirty minutes.

The witness described one round object the size of a pinhead held at arm's length. It was red and white and bright. The object traveled in a southerly direction. After being watched for several hours, it faded out of sight.

The Air Force agreed with the reporting officer that the sighting was astronomical. The planet Mars was in that part of the sky at the time, and inversion layers were also present. The evaluation was astronomical (Mars).
