Summary

On September 28, 1960, a civilian on the University of Illinois campus in Urbana, Illinois, reported an object at 0120 (about 8:20 p.m. local), at night. The graduate student saw an object shaped like a star and about the size of a star, white with a pulsating dull-red light trailing behind it. There was no sound, no exhaust, and only one object. He looked up to check if the sky was cloudy and saw the object directly overhead. It crossed the sky to the north or northeast and disappeared, visible for about 15 to 20 seconds. The witness compared its speed to the Echo I satellite. The Air Force listed the case as a meteor.
