Summary

On a foggy night in June 1958, a resident of Uruguay observed a tube-shaped object moving vertically through the sky before disappearing toward the east. The sighting was brief and the object moved with exceptional speed, according to the witness's account on an official U.S. Air Force form.

The witness reported seeing the object appear through the haze against the northern sky. The object was described as moving rapidly upward, then disappearing in an easterly direction. The observation lasted only a short time. The witness provided a completed U.S. Air Force technical questionnaire, which included a sketch showing the object's general shape and movement pattern. The file includes handwritten annotations on the form in Spanish from a Uruguayan investigation agency, suggesting that local authorities also documented the incident.

Also present in the file are several items that appear unrelated to the main sighting: a Science News Letter article about Jupiter and Saturn visibility in June 1958, weather charts for the region, additional UFO report forms from other locations and dates, and newspaper clippings about other aerial phenomena. These supplementary materials suggest the file was assembled to provide context for atmospheric and astronomical conditions at the time.

The U.S. Air Force evaluated the case as unable to be determined from available information. No definitive explanation appears in the investigation summary. The complete case file, spanning 29 pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
