Project Blue Book Case File
Upper New York, 1953Circa 1953
Summary
This report describes a sighting in 1953 in upstate New York, near Ten Mile River, at a Boy Scout camp. The witness did not report it until November 1960, when he wrote a letter to the Air Force.
The witness said he and about two hundred boys were on a hill at night watching the stars. He said they saw an object that flew very fast. He said it made sharp right-angle turns and also flew in figure-eight patterns. He estimated it was about 2,000 feet up and watched it through field glasses.
Much of the letter focused on the witness's own ideas about what flying saucers are made of and what fuel they might use, rather than the sighting itself. The Air Force noted that the witness gave very little detail about the event.
The record lists the conclusion as insufficient data for evaluation. The source reliability was listed as unknown.
