Summary

On December 30, 1952, at approximately noon near Terrigal, New South Wales, Australia, a Royal Australian Air Force wing commander sighted an unidentified object to the east at an estimated altitude of 2,000 feet and angle of elevation 7.5 degrees. The object moved very slowly in a general northerly direction for about a minute, traveling through an estimated angular distance of 5 degrees, then turned eastward and departed at great speed in approximately twenty seconds. Two other witnesses, the observer's wife and son, corroborated the sighting. The Air Force Directorate of Intelligence concluded the object was a large meteor at considerable distance.

At approximately noon 30 Dec 52 a wing commander in the RAAF sighted an unidentified object to the E at an estimated altitude of 2000', angle of elevation 7 1/2 degrees. The object was observed to move very slowly in a general N direction for about a minute, during which time it travelled through an estimated angular distance of 5 degrees. It then departed at "a great speed". This latter movement was accomplished in approximately 20 seconds. There were two other witnesses to this sighting, the wife of the observer and the child.

DOWNGRADED AT 3 YEAR INTERVALS; DECLASSIFIED AFTER 12 YEARS. DOD DIR 5200.10
