Summary

On September 27, 1959, multiple witnesses in Springfield and Fayetteville, Ohio, observed a bright object moving across the sky. The object was white in the front, blue in the middle, and red toward the back, with red streaks that came to a point. The sighting lasted only a few seconds.

The witnesses reported that the object disappeared in a manner similar to a meteor, though not quite as fast. Based on the description and the brief duration of the sighting, the Air Force concluded in its evaluation that the object was probably a meteor. The case file notes the short observation window and the visual characteristics consistent with a meteorite entering the atmosphere.
