Summary

On August 20, 1951, near Spokane, Washington, two civilian witnesses watched an object for about 20 minutes. It was first seen around 1110 (11:10 a.m.). The object was elliptical and looked flat. The witnesses judged it to be about 2 feet long and 8 to 10 inches wide. Its color was white or aluminum. No trail or exhaust was seen, and no sound was heard.

The object first appeared low in the air, then rose slowly straight up. When it reached the height of a nearby hill, it turned south and climbed steadily at a 30 to 40 degree angle until out of sight. Reports noted weather was dry and calm with no clouds. Officers checked the area on foot and found no physical evidence. The Air Force evaluated the case as a balloon.
