Summary
On July 10, 1954, at 8:55 p.m. local time, a civilian observer approximately 6 miles north of Somerset, Pennsylvania reported seeing a short vapor trail over the western horizon under clear skies. A brilliant golden object appeared at the south end of the trail, visible through binoculars. The observer watched the trail for about 15 seconds as it moved southward and disintegrated rapidly. A second brilliant golden object or light was then seen to the south. The observer heard no sound and estimated the objects at over 10 miles distance. The trail width was compared to thread at arm's length. The Air Force evaluated this sighting as a Contrail.
