Summary
On May 11, 1953, near Seattle and Renton, Washington, civilians reported a flying object. The first sighting was about 1910 (7:10 p.m.) Pacific time. The object was watched through a four power rifle telescope.
The object looked round and white, about the size of a marble. One witness said it glowed. It shifted back and forth, then dropped over the horizon. One observer guessed its height at about 10,000 feet, and another guessed about 20,000 feet. No sound was heard and no exhaust or trail was seen.
Weather was clear with 15 miles of visibility. High altitude balloons were reported in the general area at the time. A nearby station was tracking a balloon during the same period. Several aircraft were flying locally, but none were reported at high altitude. The Air Force listed the case as a balloon.
